I've developed a fee structure that is fair to you and fair to me. I charge by the word, not by the hour, so you'll know before I start work how much you'll have to pay – and you won't get a nasty surprise at the end.
I use a progressive (or graduated) pricing structure. The basic premise is that longer projects will, generally, take me less time per word than shorter ones, because as I work I will get used to your writing style and the changes I need to make. In effect, I get economies of scale from larger projects and I want to pass these efficiencies on to you.
The prices below are my current tariff for copy-editing.

This structure means that:
a 2,000-word essay will cost £100 (my minimum fee policy applies).
a 10,000-word article will cost £229.
a 100,000-word PhD thesis or novel will cost £1339.
A couple of points to note:
I now apply a minimum fee of £100.
I charge for sample edits, but if you then ask me to do work on the full project, I will take that fee off the final price.
I can work at an hourly rate if you'd prefer, though unless your work needs very little involvement it's usually cheaper for you to hire me using my standard pricing structure.
